About Nalchik

Nalchik is the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. Being a fairly large and a very beautiful city, Nalchik is also a resort-like resort city of the Caucasus Mineral Waters, as well as an important intermediate point on its way to mountain attractions such as Elbrus.The city is located on the banks of the river of the same name, at the foot of the Greater Caucasus, at altitudes from 400 to 800 meters. Nalchik suburbs stretch far to the north, closer to flat land. To the south-west of the railway station are located the rectangular blocks of the Soviet center, where the main administrative and residential buildings are concentrated; its main artery is Lenin Avenue. To the south, they move into a huge park, and then into a sanatorium and resort zone. If in the center of the city the mountains can be seen in the perspectives of the streets, then here they come up almost closely. Living in this city is heavenly and completely safe for foreigners.

History

Officially, the city has its history since 1724, when Kabardian auls appeared in its future location. At the beginning of the XIX century a Russian military fortress was laid there, and in 1838 a settlement appeared there. In 1921, Nalchik received city status and soon became the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian autonomy. The Great Patriotic City was occupied from October 28, 1942 to January 3, 1943 and significantly destroyed. After the war, Nalchik became a prominent industrial center, and in the 1960s, Nalchik began to develop as a balneological and mountain climatic resort.In the 1990s, the difficult economic situation and the general instability in the North Caucasus as a whole and in Nalchik in particular led the city and resort to decline, the recovery from which was already in the second half of zero years.

The name of the city according to the generally accepted version comes from the word nal, which denotes a horseshoe in the Kabardino-Circassian and Karachay-Balkarian languages.

Climate

Nalchik has a hot-summer humid continental climate with hot summers and no dry season. The warm season lasts from late May to mid-September and the cold season from December to March, is far warmer than he other cities of Russia. Most forms of precipitation are light rain and thunderstorms, as well as, light snow and moderate snow. Wind speeds are typically calm to a light breeze through the year.

About the university

Kabardino-Balkaria State University is one of the leading scientific, educational, informational, social and cultural University in Nalchik city of Kabardino-Balkaria Republic of Russian Federation. Kabardino-Balkaria State University annually produces about two thousand specialists. Kabardino-Balkaria State University formed in 1957 in Nalchik on the basis of Pedagogical college. On 50th anniversary Kabardino-Balkaria State University received Certificate of Merit and Medal from State Duma for its outstanding services and achievements. In 2008, the Kabardino-Balkaria State University enlisted in 100 best universities in Russia. In 2010, the Kabardino-Balkaria State University received an honorary diploma of the winner of All-Russian contest “100 Best University of Russia in the field of science and education”. Currently Kabardino-Balkaria State University operates the university complex as a new type of school, which combines different levels of educational institutions, implementing educational programs of higher, secondary, post-graduate and additional professional education. Today Kabardino-Balkaria State University holds 11 place among classical universities in Russia. Currently Kabardino-Balkaria State University has 67 departments with the teaching staff of 870 highly qaulified teachers, where 1800 students getting trained every year. Till now Kabardino-Balkaria State University has trained 14500 students.

Medical faculty

Medical faculty currently consists of 17 faculties, 3 of which are medical and biological profile (normal and pathological anatomy, normal and pathological physiology, microbiology to pharmacology) and 14 clinical departments (3 therapeutic 3 surgical, children’s diseases, obstetrics and gynecology; infectious diseases with the course of dermatology, psychiatry, neurology and addiction, general practice, gerontology, public health and public health). On a specialty “Dentistry” has 4 department (preventive dentistry, pediatric dentistry, surgical dentistry and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic stomatology). In addition, the Medical Faculty of classes conducted by teachers of other departments of the university faculties. This is mainly the Department of Humanities and economics (national history, philosophy, economy. Psychology and pedagogy, cultural studies of foreign languages, physical culture and sports, political science and sociology, as well as the Department of Biology and General Physics combination of professional and humanitarian training allows you to prepare well educated . Head physician alumni rural outpatient clinics, many are successfully working in the health care level – district physicians, internists, pediatricians, TB specialists and obstetricians.
