About Crimea State Medical Academy

The Crimea State Medical Academy is one of the oldest Medical University of the erstwhile USSR situated in the city of Simferopol, Russia. CSMU has been recognized as the leading higher medical school of Russia over the last 5 years. 

The territory of the Academy (without the clinical bases) occupies 17.3 hectares. It has 16 educational buildings, five hostels, covered track and field athletics arena, sport Centre (with stadium and swimming pool), several cafes. The library fund of university is about 600,000 books. Academy has also its own publishing center.

The University consists of six faculties: First Medical, Second Medical, Stomatologic, International Medical, Pharmaceutical and faculty of Postgradual Education. The Academy has 54 departments, medical college, 47 clinical bases and own clinic.

The Academy is particularly proud of its highly qualified academic staff, which totals 850 persons: 99 Doctors of Science, Professors, and 356 Candidates of Science (Ph.D. Holders), Associate Professors. 40 University professors are academicians and corresponding members of domestic and foreign Academics of Sciences; 14 are State Prize laureates, 60 have honorary titles. Our excellence in teaching and study was singled out by the International Educational Society (London)   which certified the CSMA in 2006 and conferred the University AA category standing for “top institution that is internationally known and recognized”. Graduating from the Crimea State Medical Academy, every foreign student receives a personal international IES Certificate in addition to the diploma of graduate and that will facilitate employment opportunities for our students in any country.

CSMA graduates work successfully in 100 countries of the world including India promoting this way the Academy’s reputation and image world-wide.

For over 90 years the Academy University has been training professional specialists. Academic excellence has been highly appreciated by the International Education Society, which has conferred the Academy University AA rank denoting top institution that is internationally known and recognized.

International Relations

Crimea State Medical Academy is dedicated to the success of its international students and provides a friendly and welcoming environment. The International center provides a facility and service for the support of foreign students. The International Office is the focal point for international students. The International Office can advise on all matters relating to application, accommodation, admission, fees, immigration, arrival services, orientation and advice on visa requirements, medical insurance and general concerns.

This means providing course information, processing your admission application as efficiently as possible and giving advice on living and studying in Crimea. The International Office also offer on-going support and after arrival advice. The International Student Support Administrator is located in the International office. Student counselors are situated in Student Services and are available for all students. The International Admissions and Enrolment Office is responsible for assessing applications and processing enquires from potential foreign student and overseas representatives.

O.A.Losev is the vice-rector for the International relations. He leads Academy’s international office and its international marketing and recruitment, admission and enrolment, student exchange and study abroad, and International student support.

In 2015-2016 academic year the total strength of foreign students is more than 2000 students from 57 countries who are studying in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and post-graduate course. The range of countries from which foreign students come to study at the Academy is very wide.

Festival Celebrations

Sports is very popular in Russia. We have a lot of opportunities for Indian students. Football, basketball, and tennis and many international competitions are conducted. Indians also can go in for cricket. Lot of events are organized including refreshing welcoming parties, New year, Diwali and other celebrations for foreign students.

Every Indian student will find something for him and the time which he spends in Crimea will be unforgettable.

A Short History of Crimea

Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. Crimea is a major land mass on the northern coast of the Black Sea that is almost completely surrounded by water.  The ancient Greeks founded colonies in Crimea from 600 BC. They built cities and ports but they did not conquer the whole peninsula.

Then this territory belonged to Mongols or Tatars until 1783 when the Russians captured Crimea from the Turks. The Russians created a naval base and fortress at Sevastopol.

Following the Communist Revolution of 1917 Crimea was made an autonomous part of the Soviet Union in 1921. Most of the population of Crimea is Ethnic Russians and Ukrainians. Only a minority are Tatars.

Today the main industries in Crimea are tourism and agriculture. The population of Crimea is 2 million. The largest city is Sevastopol with a population of 380,000.

 Crimea Today

A region and peninsula of southern Russia on the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. In ancient times it was colonized by Greeks and Romans and later overrun by Ostrogoth’s, Huns, and Mongols. Conquered by the Ottoman Turks in 1475, the area was annexed by Russia in 1783 and 2014.

Crimea is now an autonomous parliamentary republic, within Russia, which is governed by the Constitution of Crimea in accordance with the laws of the Russian Federation. The capital and administrative seat of the republic’s government is the city of Simferopol, located in the center of the peninsula.

Crimea possesses significant historical and natural resources and is a region where it is possible to find practically any type of land-scape; mountain ranges and plateaus, grass-lands, caves.

According to National Geographic, Crimea is among the top 20 travel destinations in 2013.
